March 28, 2024How to apply a mineral sunscreen?

Mineral sunscreen is different from chemical sunscreen. Instead of causing chemical reactions on the skin, mineral based sunscreen uses physical filters made with either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These minerals create physical barriers on the skin’s surface, deflecting and scattering harmful UV rays. Therefore, it is normal for the texture to be thicker during application, especially when the filters are non-nano.

For a pleasant mineral sun protection experience, here are some tips:

  1. Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure.
  2. Make sure your skin is well hydrated.
  3. Do not apply the cream on wet skin.
  4. Apply small dots of cream on the different areas of the skin and spread it gradually with the palm of your hand.
  5. If a white layer is still noticeable, keep rubbing to better distribute it.
  6. Reapply at least after every 2 hours of normal activity, after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating, and immediately after towel-drying.
  7. Ask a doctor for use on children under 6 months of age.

Sun protection measures: Spending time in the sun increases the risk of skin cancer and premature aging of the skin. To reduce this risk, it is advisable to regularly use sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF of at least 15 and to apply other sun protection measures such as: limiting time in the sun, especially between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. / 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.; and wearing long-sleeved shirts, pants, a hat, and sunglasses.
